For more than 30 years, Stephanie Poe has made a life and living out of paint, plaster, and the pursuit of beautiful surfaces. A decorative artist by trade and a student of craftsmanship by nature, she found her home in Charleston, South Carolina, a city adorned with time-honored finishes in homes that date back to the 1800’s, giving her an unlimited amount of creative ways to use her knowledge and expertise. Her deep appreciation for craftsmanship and the history behind each technique informs her approach to every project.

Though much of her knowledge was developed through hands-on experience and self taught “garage chemistry”, Stephanie has studied under some of the most respected masters in the field: Mike McNeil, Jean Sable, and Pierre Finkelstein. Her pursuit of the craft has taken her around the world, studying the techniques and traditions behind trompe l’oeil, meaning“trick of the eye”, as well as authentic and historical methods used in various plaster finishes, wood graining, and marbling.

Stephanie’s strength lies in her ability to understand a finish from the inside out: its history, its materials, and the handiwork required to make it believable. She has helped restore historic interiors with an eye toward authenticity wile continually finding new ways to translate traditional techniques into modern spaces. Whether recreating a centuries-old finish or inventing something entirely new, Stephanie brings an instinctive artistic eye, a deep respect for the craft, and three decades of experience to every surface she touches.

Bailey Grace Poe

Bailey Grace, “B”, Stephanie’s daughter, grew up immersed in the world of decorative arts, studying her mother’s hand while sitting cross-legged beneath her scaffolding on her days off from elementary school. With her mother’s passion and teachings instilled from an early age, it was only natural that she would find her own place within the family trade.

She studied Arts Management and Studio Art at the College of Charleston before officially joining Poe Artistic Design in 2019. Seven years later, Bailey Grace has become Stephanie’s right-hand woman and an integral part of the business, working alongside her from the initial spark of an idea through the many moving pieces of bringing a project to life. She brings both a creative eye and a thoughtful, logistical approach to every project. She has also had the opportunity to study under world-renowned decorative artist Pierre Finkelstein in both 2019 and 2026, continuing to deepen her knowledge of traditional techniques and the craft she grew up around.

Over the past seven years, Bailey Grace has developed her own hand and approach to decorative artisty, working across a range of finishes including limewash, Italian-inspired plasters, hand painted floors, woodgraining, marbling, and a variety of textural and decorative finishes. Her background in studio art, combined with years of hands on experience, has shaped an intuitive understanding of color and the character of a space. She especially enjoys the layered nature of each project, working in tandem with Stephanie and in collaboration with designers, builders, and clients to shape an idea layer by layer into something tactile, dimensional, and uniquely its own.

Together, Stephanie and Bailey Grace make the ultimate dynamic duo. Stephanie brings her artistic genius and deep appreciation for both classic Old World techniques and modern styles, while Bailey Grace brings her love of artfully curated and collected design, and a talent for orchestrating the ever-evolving schedules and moving parts of each project . Their shared passion for craftsmanship, creativity, and the art of making a space feel uniquely its own continues to shape the work of Poe Artistic Design.
